Material Testing Instruments


  1. Zwick hardness testing machine (CG.11, see Technician). Measuring material (metal) hardness by the methods of Vickers, Knoop and Brinell, load range from 0.2 kg to 10 kg.
  2. Shore durometer A (EG.01, see Technician). For soft vulcanised rubber and all elastomeric materials.
  3. Shore durometer D (EG.01, see Technician). For hard rubber and harder grades of plastics.
  4. Instron 4204 (RS3/4, see Technician) with tensile testing software. For tension and compression testing, max. loading capacity of 50KN (5,000 kg), force rating up to 100 mm/min, crosshead speed range 0.05 to 500 mm/min, series load cells 5KN and 10N.
  5. Monsanto tensometer type W (CG.13, see Technician). For tension and compression, load range 600N, 5KN and 20KN.
  6. JJ tensile testing machine T5002 with PL100 plotter (CG.13, see Technician). Loading range 50N, 500N and 5KN, crosshead displacement 1100 mm.
  7. Frank paper tensile tester (CG.13, see Technician). Loading range 60N and 300N.
  8. Mellen paper bursting-strength tester (CG.11, see Technician). Max pressure 60 psi.
  9. Parker print-surf paper roughness tester to predict printability (CG.11, consult Dr Bathgate).
  10. Elmendorf tearing tester (CG.11, see Technician). To measure the tear resistance of sample; pendulum range: "B" medium (0 - 4000 mN), "C" heavy (0 - 8000 mN) and "D" extra heavy (0 - 16,000 mN).
  11. BŸchel dial gauge (CG.11), for measuring paper thickness.
  12. Tasman reflectometer(CG11), for measuring paper brightness.
  13. Brookfield viscometer (EG.01). Range: 10~1000,000 centipoise with LV spindle set, range: 120~400,000 centipoise with small sample adaptor, range: 1.0~10 centipoise with UL adaptor.
  14. Model 84 Universal Impact tester (EG.09, see Technician). Range: 0 to 406 joules.
  15. P3500 strain indicator (CG.13, see technician).
  16. Lloyd LR 100K testing machine (RS 3/4, see technician) with testing software, extensometer, 4-point bend jig and thermal cabinet working temperature (70ūC to 300ūC) with temperature controller and humidity controller. Loading capacity 100 KN, crosshead speed range 0.01 to 500 mm/min, crosshead position range setting 0.1 to 1200 mm, series load cells 5KN and 10N.
  17. Lloyd LR 30K testing machine (CG.13, see technician) with testing software. Loading capacity of 30KN, crosshead speed range 0.02 to 500 mm/min, crosshead position range setting 0.1 to 1000 mm, series load cell 10N.
  18. Acoustic emission materials testing system (RS3/4, consult Dr. Pickering).
