Greetings and welcome to the School of Engineering. We are pleased that you have chosen to join us here at The University of Waikato.

Te Pūtahi o te Manawa

Te Pūtahi o te Manawa is our Science and Engineering Rōpū, and we are here to support you where we can during your time here as a student and in the future!

We have some fun social and study events during the year to ensure you feel well and are provided with great quality support during your studies.

We have Mentors and Tutors to provide the extra kanohi ki te kanohi academic and pastoral support. We are looking forward to meeting you.

Online support  

Online Support is also available for all our Māori Students. We are available to meet virtually via zoom, google hangouts and Facebook. Contact rewa.gilbert@waikato.ac.nz

Study Wānanga and Workshops

Study Wānanga are held every Wednesday afternoons, it is a space for you study alongside your peers. Get some help from some of the other students at the Wānanga. We have Tutors drop in for extra support and guidance. Come along and join in!

Academic and Study Skills workshops are held during each Trimester. Information will be announced via the Pitopito Kōrero newsletter, keep your eye out.

Orientation week

Pōwhiri for new students

The first week prior to the trimester start date is Orientation Week. During this week, there are many activities across the Campus and this week is your opportunity to sort the last minute queries or things you need to confirm for your enrolment.

Māori Orientation  

During each Orientation Week we hold a “Māori Ori” to welcome our new Māori students. This is a great opportunity to get together and meet your whānaunga Māori, both within your School and across the University.  

The Student Success Coordinator and Kaitiaki / Mentors will be at the Māori Orientation to meet all our newcomers and answer any questions or queries you may have and give you a tour around our Schools.

Māori and Pacific Clubs and Associations  

In the School of Engineering, there are a few associated Clubs and Student Associations. You can find out more about them during Clubs Day in Orientation Week.  

Our Main Māori and Pacific Club is the STEM Māori and Pacifika Club. You can contact them via their Facebook page.
